CHARACTERISTICS OF THE JOB
Job location: ICRA – Catalan Institute for Water Research, Girona (Spain)
Number of positions available: 1
Expected start: November 2022
Temporal Position. The position is for 22 Months (approximately)
Gross Annual Salary package: 15.000 – 19.999 € (to be arranged according to the candidate’s skills)

The Catalan Institute of Water Research offers a Support Research Technician position for its project RIVSTRESS (Multiple stressors impacting rivers: biodiversity and ecosystem function responses, funded by the Spanish Ministerio de Ciencia e Innovación, PID2020-115708RB-C22). The candidate will perform research on the definition of impacts caused by hydric stress, warming, nutrient excess, presence of pesticides and other contaminants on river ecosystems. The effects will be investigated according to: i) the order of occurrence of the stressors; ii) their occurrence and co-occurrence as pulses or continued pressures; iii) the previous impacts of other stressors, causing legacy effects. The work will be performed both in field case studies as well as in laboratory experiments.
The successful candidate will work both on field case studies as well as in tailored-designed experiments, all aimed to understand the generality of these responses and their associated mechanisms on microorganisms (biofilms). He/she will take responsibility of the collection of samples, analyses, and experimentation.
EXPERIENCE, KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS
Must have – Required
Research Field or Field of knowledge:
Good knowledge of aquatic ecosystems and water quality.
Qualifications and Education Level:
Biology Degree or Environmental Sciences Degree, or similar. Master completed in disciplines related to aquatic ecosystems.
Laboratory analysis experience and knowledge of statistics are necessary.
Spanish and English proficiency is necessary.
Knowledge of laboratory or field techniques related to aquatic ecology.
Experience in research centers as laboratory or field assistance in the field of water.
