DESCRIPCIÓN DE LA OFERTA

The postdoctoral fellow will work in the scope of the “Triceratops” project: http://www.psa.es/es/projects/triceratops/index.php. “Efficient technologies for the abatement of contaminants of emerging concern” (1.1.2016-31.12.2018).

This project is co-ordinated by Plataforma Solar de Almería (Dr Sixto Malato) with three Spanish partners including ICRA. The sub-project of ICRA is led by ICREA research professor Wolfgang Gernjak, who will also be the supervisor of this position (https://www.icrea.cat/Web/ScientificStaff/wolfgang-gernjak-216204).

CHARACTERISTICS OF THE JOB

  • Job location:  ICRA – Catalan Institute for Water Research, Girona, Spain

  • Position: PostDoctoral Researcher

  • Expected start: Between October 1st and November 1st, 2016. Justified exceptions for a later start due to personal circumstances may be considered.

  • Duration: 24 months

  • Temporal position

  • Study of UV/H2O2 and UV/H2O2/Cl2 in the presence and absence of small amounts of dissolved iron.

  • Investigate the influence of illumination wavelength with the view of designing UV LED driven photochemical applications.

  • Study the impact of the presence of phenolic and quinone moieties as electron shuttles in iron redox cycles.

  • Integration of nanofiltration and AOPs, and more specifically,  study of the impact of pre-oxidation on fouling propensity and the application of polishing post-treatment.

  • Characterization of dissolved organic matter and phenolic waste products, including e.g. fluorescence spectroscopy, gel permeation chromatography and electrochemical methods.

  • Investigate water quality aspects including contaminants of emerging concern, disinfection by-products and dissolved organic matter with the view of understanding treatment performance.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct experiments to pursue the above-mentioned objectives.

  • Interpret the obtained results

  • Edit scientific publications to be submitted to leading scientific journals in the field of research

  • As with all PhD students and postdoctoral fellows a small proportion of the time will be allocated to communal services such as joint laboratory cleanings etc.

  • Dissolved organic matter characterization

  • Studies of disinfection byproducts and their precursors

  • Reaction kinetics modelling

DOCUMENTATION SUBMITTED

  • Motivation letter

  • CV including work placements, academic education including grades and a short guide to the local grading system, if the applicant is from outside of Spain, and any other aspects considered relevant.
