CHARACTERISTICS OF THE JOB
- Job location: ICRA – Catalan Institute for Water Research, Girona (Spain)
- Number of positions available: 1
- Expected start: 01/03/2023
- Temporal Position. The position is for 12 months.
- Gross Annual Salary package: 24.000 € - 30.999 € (Depending on merits and experience)
OFFER DESCRIPTION
CH4-BIOPOL is a project funded by MCIN/AEI/10.13039/ 501100011033 and for the European Union “NextGenerationEU”/PRTR. The main goal of CH4-BIOPOL is to demonstrate the feasibility of producing extracellular polymeric substances (EPS) from methane by methanotrophs. Control and optimization of EPS bioproduction, understanding the pathways involved, and unraveling its physicochemical characterization are the main targets of this project. So, we are looking for a highly motivated Advanced Research Technician (microbiologist or related discipline), preferably with experience in the field of methanotrophs ecology or related research activities (e.g., environmental microbial ecology). The hired person will combine both desktop and experimental work.
KEY DUTIES
Performance of laboratory tasks including growth of pure culture strains. Identification of key genes involved in EPS production by aerobic methanotrophs. Edition of technical reports and project deliverables.
EXPERIENCE, KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS
Must have – Required
Research Field or Field of knowledge:
Microbiology, Biology, Biotechnology, Environmental Sciences or similar
Qualifications and Education Level:
Master’s or Doctoral degree
Skills:
Capacity of working in multidisciplinary teams, working autonomy, methodic and rigorous. Driving licence required.
Required Languages:
Spanish and English compulsory, Catalan recommended.
Required Experience:
Experience in research environments, microbial culture maintenance, bioreactors, and molecular biology techniques.
Desirable
Knowledge of methanotrophs ecology, experience with bacterial pure cultures, and bioinformatics.

Selection process:
In accordance with the OTM-R principles, a gender-balanced recruitment panel is formed for every vacancy at the beginning of the process.
