Position
Full Research Professor at the Institute of Environmental Assessment and Water Studies IDAEA-CSIC (Barcelona, Spain) since 1999 and Director of the Catalan Institute for Water Research (ICRA) (Girona, Spain) since May 2008.
Short Biography
His expertise is documented by the number of original publications (> 780), 187 book chapters, 27 books, an H index of 81, and the supervision of 41 PhD thesis... Since 2011 he has been chairman of the Scientific and Technological Board (STB) of the European Union-Joint Programming Initiative on “Water Challenges for a Changing World”. He has served as the Co-Editor-in-Chief of Science of the Total Environment (STOTEN) from Elsevier since January 2012, as since 1997 as Editor-in-Chief of the book series Wilson & Wilson’s Comprehensive Analytical Chemistry from Elsevier and Co-Editor-in-Chief of the Handbook of Environmental Chemistry book series from Springer.

Fate and Risk of Emerging Pollutants such as Pharmaceuticals , Endocrine Disruptors ,Pesticides and Nanomaterials in the Environment
Water Pollution Control and Protection under Scarcity.
Current projects
- Coordinator of the following projects funded by the European Union-FP7 Programme (years 2013-2019)
- a)GLOBAQUA.Managing the effects of multiple stressors on aquatic ecosystems under water scarcity(years 2014-2019)
- b) SEA-on-a-CHIP. Real time monitoring of SEA contaminants by an autonomous Lab-- on-a-chip biosensor(years 2013-2017)
- Coordinator of the following projects from the Spanish Ministry of Economy and Competitiveness (years 2007-2014)
- a) CONSOLIDER-INGENIO 2010 (2009-2014) project entitled: “Assessing and predicting effects on water quantity and quality in Iberian rivers (SCARCE)” (ref. CSD2009-00065) ,
- b) NANO-TROJAN (2012-2014) project on Organicnanomaterials in the environment: characterization, analysis, Trojan effects and risks (ref. CTM2011-24051).
Honours/Awards
In 2007 he was awarded the King Jaime I Prize for the Protection of Nature from Generalitat of Valencia, Spain. In 2011 he received the Prince Sultan Bin Abdulaziz International Prize for Water (PSIPW) 5th Award 2012 on Water Management & Protection, Saudi Arabia, and in 2012 the Recipharm Environmental Award, Sweden. In October 2013 he was awarded as Doctor HonorisCausa by the University of Ioannina, Greece
