The Japanese company Yachiyo Engineering Co. visits ICRA to learn about the SARSAIGUA programme.

Representatives of Yachiyo Engineering Co.. (Hajime Watanabe, Kimiko Tamotsu, Takashi Toyoda) visited the ICRA on 25 October to meet with researchers from the SARSAIGUA programme, the SARS-CoV-2 Surveillance Network in wastewater in Catalonia promoted by the Public Health Agency of Catalonia and the Catalan Water Agency (ACA) and coordinated by the ICRA.

The aim of the visit of the three technical consultants from the Japanese company was to carry out a preparatory study for the installation of a wastewater epidemiology system in the countries of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) commissioned by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism of Japan.

During the meeting, aspects of the configuration, structure and operation of the Network were presented, as well as the data management system and the web platform.

The Yachiyo Engineering Co. team was particularly interested in knowing how the action is coordinated and the relationship with the WWTPs. They also wanted to know what the Catalan government's perspective of the Network is and how the information obtained has been used at the Health level.

Other points of interest were the possibility of using the Network for the analysis of other pollutants in the future, as well as the prediction models that integrate wastewater data with other data such as mobility. Finally, questions were also asked about projects related to SMARTcities (Barcelona).

The Yachiyo Engineering delegation will continue its programme of visits in Spain and will soon meet with representatives of Canal Isabel II (Madrid) and Labaqua (Alicante).
