ICRA's participation in the UdG session on Wise Water Management in Cities
On March 23rd, the Wise Water Management in Cities session was held, promoted by the Water Campus and the Natural and Cultural Patrimony Campus of the University of Girona. The talk, which formed part of the cycle “Innovation for SDGs: inspirational tools towards sustainability challenges” dedicated to the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDG), was focussed on how to improve the management of water in cities to make them more sustainable and resilient.
The seminar began with a presentation by Corinne Trommsdorff, the CEO of the organisation Water Cities, who delivered an inspiring presentation about Water-Wise Cities. This was followed by descriptions of good practices by Reginna Gnirss, the R&D Director of Berliner Wassertriebe, whose presentation was focused on sustainable management of Water Cycle, with especial attention to the city of Berlin, and Joana Castellar, a researcher of ICRA, who delivered a presentation entitled “(Circular) nature-based Solutions". The presentation delivered a critical discussion about what is and what is not a Nature-Based Solution (NBS), with special focus on the role of biodiversity for the conceptualization of NBS. Moreover, insights were given about the design of NBS for promoting circular management of resources in cities, especially water and food. Finally, The EdiCitNet toolbox was presented, as an interactive space for knowledge sharing.
The talk was led by Joaquim Comas, a Professor of the University of Girona and an ICRA researcher.
