OFFER DESCRIPTION

 Seeking an experienced and highly motivated Research Technician with wide expertise operation of laboratory scale pilot plants to work in the Project “4SM. Spreading Sensors in Sewers for Sustainable Management”. The project 4SM belongs to the call R+D+i projects in strategic lines in public-private collaboration. Topic 21: Predictive maintenance of infrastructures through intelligent systems. Agencia Estatal de Investigación, Ministerio de Ciencia e Innovación/ y la Unión Europea NextGenerationEU/ PRTR. Código: PLEC2021-007794 (4SM) funded by MCIN/AEI/10.13039/501100011033 and the European Union NextGenerationEU/ PRTR. The main goal of 4SM is to create a new set of sensors and tools for advanced and sustainable management of sewage systems. 4SM addresses four of the most important challenges for optimal sewerage management, such as i) promoting the digitalization process of sewerage networks, ii) improving the capabilities of current monitoring tools, iii) exploring resource recovery and sewer energy, and iv) develop highly innovative methods for corrosion, toxicity, and odour control.4SM contributes to maximizing the functioning of urban water systems in relation to i) reducing environmental impact, ii) warning against the risk of flooding, iii) the resilience of infrastructures to climate change, iv) efficient use of resources, and v) long-term management of infrastructure capital assets.

 

KEY DUTIES

The position involves the execution of technical complex activities of the project, including the setup and operation of sewer pilot plants and the execution of experiments. It will also have to perform the monitoring of those pilot plants, using advanced on-line instruments, off-line chemical analysis and implementation and maintenance of on-line control systems developed within the project. The position will require a high degree of autonomy and responsibility combined with fluid interaction with IT technicians and wastewater utility managers and operators. The candidate must have the availability to communicate with local and foreign operators (English used as communication language), write scientific and technical reports with the project results and support the project PI in the organization of project meetings. The candidate must be able to travel to the project demonstration locations. Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to: Operation of laboratory scale pilot plants; Experimental design; Conducting independent experiments; Data analyses; Writing scientific and technical reports; Present scientific results.

 

EXPERIENCE, KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS

Must have – Required

Research Field or Field of knowledge:

Environmental Engineering or similar

Qualifications and Education Level:

An undergraduate degree in Engineering, Technology or Science. Master or PhD in Water-related topic.

Skills:

Spanish driving license or a driving licence valid for driving in Spain.

Good knowledge of water and wastewater engineering systems.

A good understanding of Occupational Health &Safety and Hazard Operations in wastewater engineering.

Practical knowledge and skills in a technical research environment, in particular in science and/or engineering disciplines

Ability to efficiently learn new skills and gain knowledge within the scope of the position.

Excellent skills in record keeping.

Ability to attend to detail.

Demonstrated skills in report writing.

Excellent organisational skills.

Ability to work effectively and independently with limited supervision, and as a member of a team.

Self-motivated and ability to resolve issues using own initiative.

Good communication and organisational skills and the ability to meet objectives within set deadlines.

Experience in writing scientific/technical reports and user-friendly manuals/notes to document procedures and operating instructions.

 Required Languages:

High level in English and Spanish (knowledge of Catalan will be positively evaluated)

Required Experience:

Over 2 years of experience in research environments conducting engineering experimental work in the field of wastewater treatment, at laboratory-scale, pilot-scale.

Experience with environmental engineering, ideally in wastewater treatment systems.

Experience with data analysis and critical assessment of operational procedures.

Experience with analytical techniques involved in wastewater analysis.

Experience in scientific writing and scientific presentations.

Experience in working on alike research and development projects.

 

Desirable

Experience in international research environments related to wastewater treatment.
