Full Professor at the Chemical Engineering Department (UdG), where I am member of LEQUiA research group.

Short Biography
Bachelor in Chemistry (UAB, 1992), MSc in Biotechnology (UAB, 1994) and a PhD in Industrial Engineering (UdG, 1998). I have published almost 100 papers in SCI journals (Hirsch Index 20), supervised 12 PhDs, and I have been involved (as IP and/or partner) in more than 50 public/private R+D+i projects (both at national and European level), and in several cooperation projects related to water treatment and sanitation in developing countries. I was entrepreneur of a spin off (SISLtech) in 2003 and have a patent in energy optimization of MBR. Among other management positions, I was the project manager of the Euro-Mediterranean Campus of Excellence in water and tourism (UdG-UIB-ICRA-CSIC), and I am the scientific coordinator of the Campus UdG_water, an innovative ecosystem that includes companies, administration and research institutions related to water issues;.

Research interests
My main research expertise is in the field of the activated sludge system, membrane bioreactors and other technologies for wastewater treatment and reuse, the investigation of degradation mechanisms of pharmaceuticals and micropollutants in water and wastewater treatment systems, and the application of artificial intelligence tools (e.g. decision support systems) for the design, modelling, control and supervision of environmental domains. My current research interested is related to closing the water cycle in cities and high water demand industries/activities, the development of decision support systems for water planning in watersheds, linking water resources and demands to economic/environmental/social outputs, exploring the concept of risiliance for the entire urban water cycle, the development of accurate models for membrane fouling, the integrated operation of multiple barriers for direct potable reuse, and any aspect that let me understand the real occurrence, fate and impact of emerging pollutants.
