BOARD OF DELEGATES

The Management Commission is designed by the Board of Trustees and is the organ which authorize some specific functions that ICRA carries out. The present composition is:

Damià Barcelò i Cullerés (Lleida, 1954) Graduated in Chemistry in 1977 and obtained his PhD in Analytical Chemistry in 1984 from the University of Barcelona.

Professor of Analytical Chemistry in the Analytical Chemistry Department of the University of Barcelona from 1977 to 1986.

From 1987 to 1993 and from 1993 to 1999 he was scientific collaborator and scientific researcher, respectively, in the Analytical Chemistry Department of the Chemical and Environmental Research Institute of Barcelona (IIQAB) of the Spanish National Research Council (Consejo Superior de Investigaciones Científicas, CSIC).
Actually is Research Professor and Head of the Environmental Chemistry Department in the Chemical and Environmental Research Institute of Barcelona (IIQAB).

From 1999 is adviser and serving member of prestigious international scientific committees.

In 2007 has been honoured with the Rei Jaume I Award for the Natural Environment Protection.

More than 500 papers in international peer-reviewed scientific journals, participation in 33 research projects and undertaken 30 research and development contracts for companies and public bodies. He has managed 22 doctoral thesis.

His research develops several aspects in water quality, specially analysis and removal of emerging contaminants (polar pesticides, surfactants, endocrine disruptors and pharmaceutics) in wastewater and drinking water.

Prof. Barceló was appointed Director of the Catalan Institute for Water Research (ICRA) in 27 May 2008.

Sergi Sabater i Cortés (Barcelona, 1958). Graduated in Biology in 1980 and obtained his PhD in Biology in 1987 from the University of Barcelona (UB), under the direction of Professor Ramon Margalef.

Since 1991 to 2001 has been Professor in the Biology Department (Ecology) of the University of Barcelona and since 2001 to 2003 in the Environmental Sciences Department of the University of Girona (UdG).

Since then is Full Professor of Ecology in the University of Girona. Currently he is the Head of the Limnology Section of the Aquatic Ecology Institute of the University of Girona. He is also co-director of the Master in Water Science and Technology (UdG) and the Master in Fundamental and Applied Ecology (UB-UdG)

He has performed as reviewer of different magazines and international funding institutions. Has authored and co-authored more than 100 peer-reviewed papers and about 50 other papers and book chapters. He has been involved in more than 30 research projects and up to 20 research and development contracts. He has supervised 7 PhD theses and presently is supervising or co-supervising other seven.

His research develops on several aspects in stream and river ecology. His main areas of research include algal ecology and biofilm ecology in natural river systems, biofilm ecotoxicology, metabolism and functioning of river systems, and global changes affecting river systems.

Prof. Sabater was appointed Deputy Director of the Catalan Institute for Water Research (ICRA) in 27 May 2008.
