LAUNCH OF SCARCE - THE MOST AMBITIOUS RESEARCH PROJECT ON THE EFFECT OF CLIMATE CHANGE ON SPANISH RIVERS

  • Damià Barceló, ICRA director and IDAEA-CSIC deputy director, is in charge of coordinating the 12 teams of scientists involved in the project.
  • Over one hundred scientists will evaluate and predict the effects of global change on water availability, its quality and the resulting socio-economic impact on Mediterranean river basins in the Iberian Peninsula.
  • With a 4.5 million euros budget over five years, leading scientists across a variety of disciplines will study the Llobregat, Ebro, Júcar and Guadalquivir basins, as representative rivers for a broad combination of socio-ecological conditions in Spain's Mediterranean area of influence.

ICRA, IDAEA (CSIC), University of Barcelona (UB), Catalan Polytechnic University (UPC), University of Valencia (UV), Andalusian Institute of Marine Sciences (ICMAN), Euskal Herriko University (EHU), Rovira i Virgili University (URV), University of Lleida (UdL), Valencia Polytechnic University (UPV) and Madrid Polytechnic University (UPM).
